I was looking through the 100 Best Things We Ate This Year, in the recent Time Out Chicago, and came across a picture of a BBQ and coleslaw panini at Cooper's - A Neighborhood Eatery, in Lakeview. The sandwich and accompanying frites, look delectable, and was hoping someone can give me some more information about the food at Cooper's, especially this sandwich.

The menu seems similar to the fare at Hopleaf, which I have not tried yet, but know it is a popular destination for readers of this forum.

I've been to Cooper's a few times and it's one of those places that I want to like more than I actually do.

I'm certainly no beer expert, but I would say they have a pretty good selection of different beers from around the world (probably 30-40 in total).

I would rate the food as average to pretty good. I had a duck confit a pesto pizza which was very good. I've also had their duck confit mac and cheese which was just ok. They advertise a sandwich called the Broodwich as "the best sandwich you'll ever have", but it's really just a sandwich with a bunch of standard deli meats.

Overall, a good place to go if you're in the neighborhood, but it's not worth making a special trip.
