If he spoke any English beyond the flavors of his gelato, King Penguin would be the first to welcome Spring and offer you a delicious strawberry gelato.

Actually, it was a little too eggy-gooey. But you know, that's part of the fun of the Penguin; it's different every time, which is something Cold Stone Creamery will never understand.

    Grazie, Pinguino Re.

    Mike,

Great to see King Penguin back in action!

Ummm, is it just me, or is King Penguin's skin color disconcertingly similar to the color of the strawberry gelato? :?

    Enjoy,
    Gary

Has Penguin closed? I stopped by yesterday afternoon around 1:30pm to find the place dark and the sign listing their hours missing from the front door. I tried their phone and it is still connected, but the voice mailbox was full. Anyone have the scoop (no pun intended)? I will be sincerely heartbroken if the Penguin is no more...

    HI,

When I was first aware of them, they kept hours beginning around noon. Later it was hours beginning around 4 or 5 PM until 10 PM.

I will keep my fingers crossed it may be the time of day.

    Regards,

Is "The Penguin" on the South Side of the road at all related to "Il Penguino" on the North Side of Lawrence, about a block west of it?

I drove past the Penguin last night, and they appear to be open. Lights were on inside, their neon Open sign lit. Thanks for posting about this, it serves as a good encouragement for me to patronize it more frequently.

Since my last post, I've tried the Penguin a couple more times and they've always been closed. I tried again late-afternoon on a Saturday and then around 7pm on a weeknight. Some lights were on inside and the neon sign was lit, but the place was closed. Hours still missing from front door.
