I have heard very good things about this restaurant.
Haven't gone yet but my sister has been back many times.

I've been to Filippiniana a few times, and I've always enjoyed it. They have a nice buffet on Sundays, if you want to sample lots of foods. I've done both -- buffet and a la carte, and have not been disappointed. On Sundays, it is pretty packed, so either go early or late.

I have been to the Sunday Buffet at Filippiniana a couple times and it’s really good. A majority of the patrons are Filipino which for an ethnic restaurant says they are good… Especially if your own ethnicity goes there in large numbers.

Sunday Buffet is what I recommend trying especially if you’re not familiar with Filipino food and want to try a large variety of dishes.

    Hi,

My friend Helen is a Filipino who has gone with me to most of the Filipino restaurants in the area. Unfortunately Filippiniana didn't impress us the only time we went on a Sunday. We were pretty luke warm on the buffet with the only item we returned to several times was a tropical fruit salad dressed in cream. Helen gave me the recipe, which means I have no reason to return there.

There are two Filipino restaurants across the street from each other on Clark Avenue: Fish Pond and Little Quiapo. We favor Fish Pond having gone there for the buffet on Sunday a few times.

    Fish Pond
    4416 N. Clark St.
    Chicago

    Little Quiapo
    4423 N. Clark St.
    Chicago

We went once so far to the cafeteria style canteen at 3R Oriental Food Market. We enjoyed this quite a bit.

    We also liked Adobo Express.

China Chef in Morton Grove not only has Jewish-style Chinese Food, it also has Filipino food as well as Filipino-Chinese food (for lack of any other description). We like this place quite a bit.

My all time favorite of the Filipino restaurants is Cebu, which Helen has yet to visit. It is the closest thing to upscale Filipino food around here.

    Regards,
    Cathy2

The store that is next to Filipiniana is also call 3R's. I assume they are related somehow.

Sounds like a good estimate! Do they serve food there, too?

I don't know. I have only looked through the window when I was coming from Sun View market with a cart full of groceries. I didn't notice any pre-made food. I keep meaning to stop there before going into Sun View, but I always forget. After re-viewing G Wiv's pics of 3Rs' grilled squid, I will be sure to check it out the next time I am out that way (maybe this weekend).

For what it's worth, the 3R's on Montrose's turo turo tables are in the back, away from sight in the windows.

(begin rant) Can I just mention that as an "ethnic minority" and a foodie, statements like this really bug me. I realze that Polster means no harm - but think about what you're saying! Just because a bunch of Filipino folks have packed the restaurant, the law of averages says that the quality could be no better than a Chili's. In other words, just because they're of the correct ethnicity, doesn't mean that they know what a good meal tasts like. (/end rant)

Thanks - I had to get that off my chest. Now, back to the food.

That would be a no. Not only does 3r's not serve hot food at the Niles location, it is not much of a store either (P&P or Pinoy Foods are much better options in the area). It seems to mostly be a place to wire money to the Phillipines, and buy phone cards. One thing they did have was a freezer full of various leaves (banana, horseradish etc.). They also had a freezer full of milkfish for 1.89/lb.
While I was there, I noticed Cid's Ma Mon Luk, in the same mall. They had a neon sign advertising Siopao, which I assume are similar to the Chinese Cha Siu Bao (Steamed Pork Buns). I have never tried the Filipino version of this dish. If I didn't have a trunk full of groceries about to freeze, I would have definitely checked it out. I plan on going there on Saturday.
