Fierros has been mentioned in a thread or two, but I thought a write-up might be in order. It is an Argentine restaurant with a twist they call Tenedor Libre or "free fork". It's a four course set menu for $15.
It's a nice looking space, considering that it is a storefront located in a rather dreary strip mall across from Lane Tech:
First course is assorted cured meats, potato salad, a cheese, and roasted red peppers:
My food photography needs a lot of work; this tasted far better than it looks. The cured meats and roasted peppers were particularly good. The potato salad with peas and carrots was different than the American version, but good. It's rich enough that a bite or two was enough for me.
Second course is pasta with a modified pesto sauce, a little heavy on walnuts, and a green salad with surprisingly good tomatoes:
Third course is roasted chicken and Italian sausage. The chicken is incredibly moist and flavorful, and the Italian sausage is quite good.
Fourth course is short ribs and skirt steak. Both meats have great grilled flavor and a nice chew. It makes my mouth water just writing this.
Seconds are available for any course, the food is well prepared, and the price is very reasonable. It's BYOB with a $3 per bottle corkage fee. Cash only.
Highly recommended.
