Hi,
I thought there was a spelling inconsistency until I read:
The “daughter” of Fat Jonnie’s Daughter is Lorene Czajka. Her father and his brother, Frank and John Pawlikowski, opened Fat Johnnie’s Red Hots on Western Avenue in the early 1970s after John operated a successful pushcart near 67th Street and Damen Avenue.
...
About a year ago, he stumbled upon the Mokena location. “I was just driving down 191st Street and saw a sign that said, ‘Fat Jonnie’s Daughter,’” he said. “I thought, ‘It can’t be the same.’ Sure enough, it was.”
Dawn Vieceli, Czajka’s neighbor who works the day shift with her, said that’s the reaction many customers have when they walk into the Mokena store. “Every day a customer walks in and asks if we are part of the original,” Vieceli said. “They bow down to her.”
Czajka’s father broke off from his brother in 1986 and opened a location at the now defunct food court of the Orland Park Place Mall. He dropped the “H” from the name to be distinct, yet related.
