My turn to figure out dinner--big challenge this time. I am painting the house this evening and my partner is returning from a business trip around 8 PM...I will be in no shape to cook, so I thought delivery or takeout. We live in the West Loop, and I work on Michigan Ave.

Nothing spicy or overtly fried--partner has work related tummy ache...we usually go for Sushi X or Jubilee Juice, but wanted something different. Pizza is out, also (we've been hitting Coal Fire).

Any thoughts? We really need a good dinner...

That's funny, I was just looking at grubhub.com for something semi healthy that delivers somewhat near that area. Baba Palace does, although I don't know if the food is good or not. I'm about to order some now, so I can let you know by tonight if it's good. You can go to grubhub.com to look at their menu. Just type in your address and it will give you a list of restaurants that deliver to you. Baba Palace should be under the "healthy" cuisines section.

i used to go to live across the street from baba palace so i'd go once in awhile. it's OK. the cab drivers seem to flock there, so it can't be bad or "unauthentic" maybe is the better explanation. the food was always pretty good, and the hot pitaesque bread tasty. and it's cheap, too.

the place is a bit of a dump really, though... i was just by not too long ago and noticed they do now deliver and now the storefront has been painted, but i'm sure it's still dumpy inside.

if you're wanting to see arabian langugage tv, it's a good place to go... i honestly never really felt comfortable going there, though.

I just picked up some carryout at Baba Palace last week and brought it back to my office for a late lunch with Saint Pizza. I thought it was pretty good and so did she. I also didn't feel uncomfortable going in at all, nor did it seem terribly dumpy. At least, I've been to dumpier joints that still had some damn fine food.

We ordered some mutton biryani and keema palak. It wasn't terribly spicy (for Indian/Pakistani food that is), but it was fairly heavy and the Keema Palak was pretty greasy. I don't know if at least some of the dishes there are going to be very good for someone with an upset stomach.

If you're West Loop, what about Greektown for delivery or take out? Artopolis still has their counter open at night -- plus they have those cute desserts as well.

I don't know about you but I can think of nothing more lovely than sitting in a nice pretty casual restaurant, letting others do all my bidding after being on the road -- as long as i had someone wonderful to talk to.

    Especially with a bar available.

    Cheers!

I've always been a fan of Artopolis, but on my last visit there a few weeks ago, I was really grossed out by the fresh fingerprints left behind on my valhrona cake. Couldn't they have used a tissue paper or a spatula to remove it from the case? Maybe this wouldn't be such an issue if the service wasn't so awfully inattentive and slow. They just didn't seem to have a good system that day.

Sorry, I meant Baba Pita, not Palace. Baba Palace serves Indian food, while Pita serves middle eastern.

I ordered some delivery today, and liked it. The food was fresh and nicely seasoned. We had some falafel, a small iceberg salad with a light dressing, a falafel sandwich, and an entree of chicken schwarma. The entree came with rice, hummus(very creamy), pita, and a little salad for 6.99. Chicken was moist and flavorful. The garlic sauce that accompanied it was very good. The falafel came with some delicious tahini-based sauce. The rice is basmati with a few lima beans and a lot of dill. This was a cheap, light, and tasty meal.

    They're open until 9pm.

I often get takeout from Klay Oven - good, straightforward, Indian food. On Orleans north of the Mart. Not in the West Loop, but close. Might be convenient if you are coming from Michigan Avenue to the west loop. They typically have the food ready to go in around 15 minutes.

After all of that I wound up ordering Udon Noodle Soup and some Salmon Terriyaki from Sushi Wabi...our standby. Partner's tummy was made worse by a 90 minute flight delay (but I snuck in some sushi for me).

But I was thrilled to get the tip on Grubhub.com--how great is that? Thanks a million for that reccomendation.

FYI--I love India House on Grand for Indian take out--they do delivery, too, but through a delivery service, so I usually go by on the way home from work. I think it's the best off Devon that I've had. Exhaustive menu and really helpful order takers. Mine even pointed out that I was ordering all "creamy" dishes and threw in some tandoori vegetables gratis. They've even made me papdam, which is not on the menu.
