I work in Northbrook and my friend works from home in Arlington Heights.

Is there a good place for an early dinner (5 ish) next Thursday somewhere in between?

I'd say price less than $20 a plate, but not a chain restaurant. Cuisine is up for grabs.

    TIA.

I have family in Mt. Prospect and I live in Wilmette and we frequently meet at the Noodle in Glenview. It's about 20 minutes for each of us to get there and the food is good. They make their own pasta and it's reasonably priced. My husband loves their lasagna and I really love their tilapia. Their grilled vegetables with balsamic glaze are pretty delish too. In Glenview, you could sit outside at Periyali. Should be in your budget.

This thread contains a few suggestions near Lake Cook Rd & Buffalo Grove Rd.

Then there is this post about Bapi. I've never been, but I've been curious.

There are also a lot of restaurants on Milwaukee, but some of them are chains. I would run a search on Wheeling or Buffalo Grove.

    I would also suggest

How about Tuscany on Milwaukee in Wheeling? I guess I keep focusing on pasta as an affordable dinner choice. Their macaroni cipriani (wide noodles with tomato cream sauce) is delicious.

Plans have changed and now we're eating in Northbook. I've read the recent post about lunch...any other suggestions for dinner? It may be before 5, so it would probably have to be a place that serves lunch also.

Thank you for your suggestions though...they may come in handy another time!

If you are staying in Northbrook, then I would recommend Francesco's Hole in the Wall or its sister restaurant, Next Door Bistro. It might be pushing your $20 budget though, as the entrees probably range $15-25. I believe that they open at 5, are closed on Mondays, and cash only.

If you take Golf to Wolf and your friend takes Rt. 21/45 to Kensington to Wolf, you can go to Salerno's in Mount Prospect:

Very good food; my favorites include angel hair pasta with meat sauce and their pizza- they put on an amazing amount of FRESH toppings. Their soups are homemade and very tasty. Everything's a great value.

Not a favorite of mine, but it gets praise.

I can also second I Am Siam, and I LOVE Salerno's as a bargain play.
