I was out Saturday with my mom and sister and stumbled across Tia Maria's for dinner. I was a little nervous about the place at first as it is in a strip mall with bent shades and neon beer signs shining through the openings BUT once I went inside to check it out (my sister and mom stayed in the car until I came back to report)...cute! The theme is yellow and blue and is a very clean place. The food is VERY good. This not your basic burrito, tostada, taco place. They have those items (on the last page of their menu) in addition to some great other ethnic dishes.

For appetizers we had the guacamole which was very good....chunky yet smooth and VERY fresh. The chips are also good...thick with just the right amount of salt. Their salsa is OK... and the only reason I say that is because I prefer the chunkier style and theirs is more sauce-like.

For dinner, my mom and I had the mole poblano with chicken enchilada style...VERY good. The mole was smooth with the right amount of spice. I liked it so much I picked up another one to go for my hubby (KevinT) at home watching the kids! His version was not enchilada style but rather just the mole smothered chicken with tortillas on the side. He loved it!

My sister had the "Poc Chuc" which are 3 thin-cut pork chops cooked in butter, lime, garlic and chipotle...again, VERY good.

For dessert, the flan was OUTSTANDING and their "sundaes" with Piloncillo (brown sugar-like...almost like a thin caramel) sauce are must trys.

As far as drinks, my sister had a margarita...they do NOT skimp on their alcohol...WOW it was strong and the only reason she had one!

This place is a keeper in my book and I plan on going back in the near future. I encourage you to give it a try if you are out this way.

    PBandFluff:

Thanks for the review. I was interested to hear they serve Poc Chuc as that is a Yucatan dish. Did you happen to notice if they mentioned a specific region of Mexico they specialize in? I'm always trying to find different restaurants serving regional cuisine.

I'll have to check it out!

    dees_1,

I just looked at the take-out menu I brought home and it says they offer a "special" every week from the "different regions of Mexico". It also says you can sign up for an email newsletter to notify you of these specials. No email given on the menu but it says you can sign up at the register.

I know when we were there the special was a pork stew.

I hope this helps. Let me know what you think after you give it a try! Enjoy!

We are planning on heading to Tia Maria's this weekend. Has anyone been there recently that would like to share their review?
