Has anybody checked out this little spot that recently opened at 91 Green Bay Rd in Glencoe? A friend of mine picked up a carry-out menu and it looks moderately priced for the area (chicken fajitas $10, Steak Tampiquena $13.50, Burritos $6, etc.). He said there were two women behind the counter and there are a small amount of tables, but judging from the beverage section of the carry-out menu it looks like they have no liquor license. I plan on carrying out in the next week or so, but if anybody's already been in please let me know what you thought...

Based on the "Wholly" part of the name we were hoping this was a northern outpost of Wholly Frijoles, but alas, based on the menu I think not.

The restaurant itself is relatively spartan, the staff...friendly. I generally look for a mole' dish to test a new Mexican restaurant but there is none on the menu or on the specials. I decided on the fajitas, a relatively safe choice for a very basic restaurant. They were good...not great.

Now the the surprise. My wife ordered the Huachinango Veracruzana. Normally, I would warn her that at a place like this they probably have fish lying around far longer than we would find acceptable. I was lazy that evening, said nothing, and awaited the big disappointment. Lo and behold, the fish arrives, looking, and more importantly smelling, great. I took a bite and was shocked, pleasantly, that is, as to how fresh and tasty the snapper was. This was perhaps one of the best I've had including what I feel is the over-rated El Barco. I cannot vouch for future patrons but I plan on ordering the fish the next I go there.

Thanks Jerry, I'll make sure to try it in the next week and report back the results...

I have also tried Wholy Guacamole and have found the food exceptionaly great, and reasonably priced. My favorite dish is the carne asada and my daughter loves the shrimp cocktail.
