I am looking for suggestions for breakfast spots in the Oak Brook area. Not interested in Panera, Corner Bakery, or bagel shops but sit down pancake and waffle type places.

The Clubhouse for spectacular brunch (Sundays only):

Egg Harbor in Hinsdale (much superior to the Yorktown location, which is possibly closer):

    777 N. York
    Hinsdale, IL 60521
    Phone: 630-920-1344

On the corner of Ardmore and Roosevelt (north on 83 from the shopping center, then west on Roosevelt Road) are Simon's and Kappy's, owned by the same family and both typical American diner fare.

On 83 and St. Charles is Kopper Kitchen, very good Belgian Waffles and Greek diner food. All of these last three options are extremely casual and nothing special (just solid breakfast food).

Well, you are in Oak Brook, and according to Phil Vettel in today's Trib, you can hardly do better than an Egg McMuffin.

There's an Egg Harbor in downtown Elmhurst, just to the North of Oak Brook. Also in Elmhurst is Fresh Start Cafe at York and Butterfield roads or Cafe Amano on York at the Railroad tracks. Elmhurst boasts the typical array of diners as well.

Cafe Amano doesn't have a breakfast menu anymore. If you ask, I bet they'd make you an omelette....but I'm not so sure about pancakes or waffles.

Fresh Start Cafe is closer to Oakbrook but I personally like Rainbow Diner on York Rd. in Elmhurst much better.

Agree with the Egg Harbor recommendations. The Hinsdale location is good, the Yorktown one, for some reason, seems to be not as good as the others (I have not been to the one in Elmhurst).

I also would recommend the Moondance Diner, on Ogden Avenue just immediately west of Route 83. (I believe it technically is in Westmont, but is right on the Hinsdale border -- it's just south of Oak Brook.)

Another good breakfast option is Juicy-O in Downers Grove on Finley. It is Jimmy Bannos' of HO7 breakfast concept. Excellent freshly made mini donuts to start the meal.

How could I have missed this?? This is going to require a detour some morning soon.
