A few days ago Phil Vettel (Chicago Tribune) reviewed a dozen or so of Chicago's better know steak houses, with pretty much the same names we always see when steak houses are mentioned, and granted many of them are excellent.
I'd like to see a few reviews/opinions of other steak houses here. The best steak I think I ever had was at the Erie Cafe, which is never mentioned among Chicago best.
I can only guess it's because it is so good, they don't feel it necessary to advertise. The Erie Cafe is not for the budget conscious, but the quality justifies their prices. They also apparently serve Italian and Seafood as well, but I'll never try those specialties so long as their steaks continue to be exceptional.

Just plain good food; I'm not a calorie counter.
