Mr. Kite's - extraordinary handmade chocolates on Rush St.

After 20 years in a small, crowded, non-descript store front on State St, near Elm, proprietor Dominick So, 4 days ago, opened a large, bright, beautiful new version of his Mr. Kite's candy/ice cream shop (with plenty of tables to sit at and eat) at 6 W Maple (just West of State). Mrs. Marydon2 and I have enjoyed Dominick's exquisite chocolate creations for 15 years, and we're overjoyed that the fact that the future demolition of his old location has finally forced this really nice man to open a place worthy of his talents.

All of Dominck's pieces are handmade on the premises. My personal favorites (and two of his most popular items) are the dark chocolate Enlish toffee, and the caramel apples, with coverings ranging from oreo, to M & M's, to pecan, to cashew. Mrs Marydon2's favorite is the dark chocolate covered turtles, also one of his best sellers.

We've just come back from our second visit to the new location, and enjoyed the new addition of 16 flavors of Cedar Crest ice cream (we shared a scoop of a coffee/chocolate mix that was delightful). We're told it's an award-winning ice cream from Wisconsin. And, it's great to finally have tables to sit at and enjoy the ice cream, soft yogurt, and candy.

Dominick always has creations appropriate to the holiday or season. He currently has these amazing little chocolate baseball caps (light and dark). Mr. Kite's is open every day, and we think anyone enjoying dinner in the area would be well advised to consider this fun place as an alternative dessert destination.
