I haven't seen Marty (the owner and a friend of a friend) in quite a while, but I'm seeing the mutual friend tomorrow and can get an update. Last I saw him, he was definitely retired and pondering staying here or moving to Florida. Can't say when it closed, I'll ask tonight as well.

Buddies has probably been closed around 90 days. I ride by on my way to work in the am. It looks like whatever is going in there is pretty much ready to go. The whole interior appears to have been gut renovated.

Did you ever get the story? Thanks in advance.

Whoops -- sorry, Hatty, I didn't run into our mutual friend as I expected to. When I do (hopefully this weekend), I'll make sure to update.

Hot chocolate? A warm puppy? Nyquil and Vicks Vaporub?

the new place going into Buddies has its awning up. It's called Socca (which is how my southern mother says Soccer).

Sounds like a new bistro is coming to the neighborhood.

In my defense, I did post this on Chowhound back in mid-April (long enough ago for it to be well-forgotten, I understand) --

Also, I was talking to the former owner of Buddies, on Clark, over the weekend, and he says that the new owner of the building plans a "French Country" restaurant. He said they planned a substantial renovation of the space, although I don't know what that entails, never having been in Buddies.

I've expected to see Mimi, the mutual friend I've mentioned, but her hours at Sweet Occasions haven't coincided with my trips there. But if you're there and she's there you can probably get the latest news on Marty. :)
