Inspiration Cafe, the Chicago Agency addressing hunger, housing and job training for the homeless is selling holiday pies through its restaurant/training facility kitchen in Uptown.

The pies available include an apple, pear and cranberry, pumpkin, sweet potato, pumpkin cheesecake and pecan caramel cheesecake. The cost is between $8 and $25.

The proceeds go to support Inspiration's culinary arts job training program. So, it's for a good cause.

Thanks for the heads up. I see you must order these pies by November 19th, which is Friday.

    Good luck with your fundraiser.

    YourPalWill,

Thanks so much for the info. I'm a big advocate of the work that they do, and because of your post was actually able to convince my "nothing-but-homemade-for-the-holidays" family that these pies were a must. We've ordered two.

Thanks again, and Happy Thanksgiving to all!

    Dear Will,

Thanks for the tip on the pies. I ordered two, the cranberry-apple and the pumpkin, and they were a huge hit at Thanksgiving dinner (the first that we have hosted!). I hope that these will be a tradition at Inspiration Cafe, because they were delicious, and because I can't make a pie to save my life.

Also, the folks at the cafe were so friendly, and the cafe was so warm and welcoming on a sleet-filled afternoon that I was very embarrassed that I have not gone for lunch (I live only a few blocks away). I'm eager to correct that, and to try out their new place on Sheridan.

Thanks again for the information. I hope that you had a good holiday, and that the pie sale was a huge success for your organization.
