Some friends and I are going to the United Center on December 8 to see the Illinois basketball game. It starts at 11.

We were looking for a breakfast place near there (around 9 AM). I have searched the board and only found lunch/dinner ideas.

Our only ideas so far are Lou Mitchell’s or the Sweet Maple Cafe. Does anyone have a feeling on how crowded either would be at 9 on a Saturday?

    Any other suggestions/comments?

West of the UC there's LTH favorite Moon's
    http://lthforum.com/bb/viewtopic.php?t=10043

It's on Western just south of Madison.

East of the UC there's the Palace Grill, on Madison at Loomis. Basic diner food, crowded for weekend breakfast.

Not too far west on Madison and with easy on-street parking, you'll find the very welcoming and celebrated soul food restaurant (good biscuits) Edna's:

I was going to suggest Lou Mitchell's
    565 W Jackson Blvd, Chicago, IL 60661 · 312-939-3111

There is typically a line on any Saturday morning...but usually not much more than a 15-30 minute wait. But as a plus you get to munch on some donuts while you wait.

In fact last time I was there (last winter) the Illini were playing at the UC and the place was FULL of Illini fans and their orange garb...so might be a good place to get in the spirit before the game.

Another place that is very close to the UC and most times very good is: Wishbone
    1001 W Washington St, Chicago, IL 60607 · 312-850-2663

We decided to go to Moon’s for breakfast on Saturday. As a stereotypical suburbanite all I can say is: WOW. Moon’s is an interesting place. But, we thought breakfast was nothing special, either as to price, quantity, or quality. It was just ok.

While we were there I noticed the amount of corned beef they were selling. So I decided to get one to go for after the Illini game. I thought the sandwich was very good.

Not open yet? I saw it was temporarily closed but that was in October...figured it would be open by now....

I believe it is open now. I walked past it the other morning and recall that people were eating. The website indicates they reopened Dec. 7. Call ahead to be sure.
