We don't often go out to breakfast at our house, as my kids usually prefer for me to make a gargantuan weekend breakfast for them, at least one day of the weekend. But then again, this was the final day of winter break, Sunday School starts up again next week and the younger daughter had an overnight guest, prompting our breakfast trip to Wheatfields.

I love Wheatfield's. They are strictly a breakfast and lunch place on Oak Park Avenue in Tinley Park. In the past year they moved to their current location, just a block or two away from the old place, which was smaller. There is still a line out the door on Sunday mornings.

What do I love about Wheatfield's? The menu is terrific, with more choices for breakfast than I've seen anywhere else. Besides your normal breakfast fare, they have a cordon blue frittata, tunisian eggs and one of my favorites, wild eggs. The pancakes and waffles are terrific. Juices are fresh squeezed. I've even been known to drool while watching a bowl of oatmeal, topped with fresh fruit, go past on a tray for another table. It just all looks so good!

The real key to Wheatfield's is the care they put into everything they do. All the eggs used are Phil's fresh eggs because the owner thinks they taste better. Ham is cut off the bone. Vegetables are fresh. As an example, I again ordered wild eggs for breakfast. I probably order this more than anything else on the menu. My plate came with three perfectly poached eggs, drizzled with fresh hollandaise sauce, over chopped ham, fresh spinach and chopped portabello mushrooms. Hash brown potatoes on the side were perfectly cooked, with that crispy exterior and soft, creamy potato flavor inside. I chose pancakes instead of toast with my entree and was not disappointed.

I've never made it past the breakfast items at Wheatfield's, but today as I was finishing up my breakfast I saw someone at the table next to me start digging into a delicious looking patty melt. I'm thinking I have to go back and try one very soon.

    Suzy,

Thanks for the update on this place. I've seen their ads in mailers but haven't yet tried it as we've always been stuck on going to Lumes. We go to the Lumes on 159th, 1/2 mi (E) of LaGrange Road. In fact, I was there this morning and ate a strawberry Belgian waffle, eggs over easy and Greek toast faster than any person really should. We have consistently gone back to Lumes because their service is fast, their food is always really good, the orange juice is fresh-squeezed and it's close to my house.

However, Wheatfield is also fairly close, so the next time we venture out to breakfast, I will try that place and report back. Good to hear there's other decent places in the area!

Love the place. Pricey and the service is a bit sketchy sometimes due to the traffic, but it's still one of my favs out this way. Had the Bistro omelet last visit, good stuff, it had brie cheese and.. well I can't remember what else but it was good. :)
Haven't had lunch there either, gotta give it a shot.
