I have a friend coming in tomorrow from Green Bay for business and she's got a craving for Chinese bbq buns - does anyone know of a place near the Woodfield Mall area that serves them? It's got to be reasonably close to Schaumburg - we won't have time for a run to Chinatown. I turned up two decent looking Chinese places on Metromix (Smiling Budda and Henry Jay Chinese Restaurant) but can't find menu pages for either.
    Thanks!

They do. I saw a family eating dim sum on New Year's eve.

Are you looking for baked or steamed?

For baked, I believe that Tianlai Mart gets them in from Chinatown. They bring fresh bakery up to Palatine from Chinatown on a daily basis. You might be able to call them a day in advance if you have a special request. It is very close to 53.

    Tianlai Mart
    1266 E Dundee Rd
    Palatine, IL 60074

For steamed, you could inquire if Jockey Wok n Roll website has them in their dim sum selection (11:30am-2pm)

    Jockey Wok n Rolls
    1017 N Roselle Rd
    Hoffman Estates, IL, 60195

I haven't seen the pork buns at Tianlai but i get the onion and chive buns there all the time (from Chinatown). Really not close to Woodfield though. :?

My mom sees it on the weekend, and like I said before you can probably ask them to bring you some if you ask in advance. It's less than a 10 min ride up north on 53 from Woodfield, which is much closer than Chinatown.

I called Smiling Buddha and with some communication problems I ascertained that they DO have steamed BBQ buns on Saturday & Sunday (most likely for Dim Sum) but when I asked, "but not for dinner?", the woman told me that they could provide them, but it would cost more. Um, ok. I guess I'll give it a shot - my friend is looking for something slightly more authentic than Big Bowl.
