    During the summer Peet's shops have simple syrup on the "condiment bar" to sweeten iced drinks. I'm amazed that other places don't.

    dixie kitchen is the first thing that came to my mind, but you've already been there... i'm sure there are other places i can't think of right now...

    i vaguely remember seeing them at house of blues.

    Hecky's has them. and i wouldn't be surprised to see them at other bbq joints or for that matter any southern type place... though nothing else comes to mind right now...

    Anyone else got any Hush Puppies?

    a quick "hush puppies" search elsewhere turned up this:
    Snappy's Shrimp House, Hagen's Fish Market, Frank's Chicago Shrimp House II, Stanley's (as in the bar, not the produce place), Skylark, Harold's Chicken Shack (one location or all? not sure), Redmond's Ale House, South Water Kitchen (jalopeno filled), Houndstooth, Buba Gumps... ok i guess that's enough of a list for now.

    About the only thing decent off the franchise Hecky's menu(and, actually not on my most recent menu...is it now *secret*?) are their hushpuppies. Flavorful, onion-laden. And I offer my approval as a dyed-in-the-wool Texas Hill Country fried catfish and hush!!! puppy! afficianado.

    Hecky's has hush puppies? It's not on their website menu and I don't recall seeing it on the board in their Evanston location. I'm sure I would have noticed. Is this something they can prepare but you have to know to ask for it?

    Hi,

    I want to make some sweetened tea for the Civil War talk tomorrow. What are the proportions of sugar:tea bags:water for a suitably acceptable sweetened tea?

    Cathy:

    bring two cups of water to a boil
    turn the heat off under the water and
    add two family size tea bags.

    Allow the tea to steep 10 minutes. It will be very dark and concentrated.

    While the tea is still warm, dissolve 1 cup of sugar in it.

    Once the tea/syrup has cooled sufficiently, put it in a 2 quart pitcher. Fill the pitcher 3/4s with cold water and chill.

    Oh no, you have to use Luzianne tea bags and simple syrup to sweeten it! :lol:

    Hi,

    Yesterday at Prairie Grass in Northbrook, I ordered iced tea. For the very first time, my tea came with a small vial of simple sugar syrup to sweeten my tea. I liked this very much because the sugar immediately integrated into the drink instead of settling on the bottom. No more stirring vigorously to promote the sugar's dissolving.
