Any other good food options nearby bob chins in wheeling?

I'm not familiar with the area, and my gf lives up near there, does anyone have any suggestions on any decent or above average places (any type of cuisine) within 10 minutes of the bob chin's in wheeling? Thanks in advance to any replies.

In addition to those mentioned, there's a Tuscany in Wheeling across the street from Chinn's. Claim Jumper is a pretty decent casual place. At the Glen in Glenview, there's a Wildfire and Mitchell's Fish Market.

Just south of Tuscany is Golden Chef, which has pretty good dim sum and OK cantonese.

There's Hackney's a few doors north of Chinn's (used to be La Francaise in between), and a bunch of other stuff from Eduardo's to Benihana's to Panda Express, and a sushi place at Dundee and Milwaukee (is Don Roth's still around there? Is it still any good?)

I ate at Claim Jumper's Wheeling location a few months ago and I thought it was not very good. Some items were just unappealing, some were flavorless, several steaks were cooked to a degree considerably different than specified, the pacing was all wrong (one course was brought about two minutes after another), etc. The good news is that the portion sizes are enormous and the prices are reasonable. But I wouldn't go back.

Mitchell's Fish Market, OTOH, has been consistently excellent. Like Chinn's, the seafood is very fresh, but I like the preparation style of many dishes at Mitchell's much better. I particularly recommend their kung pao chili calamari, and anything prepared Shang Hai style (steamed with ginger and scallions).

Some Ideas For You

I've been pimping the burgers, and turkey sammiches over at that Market Square recently. It's a diner, and I usually only go on Tuesdays when they have split pea soup, but a 1/2 lb hand formed patty melt, split pea soup and fries will kick Hackney's butt for price and quality. Turkey Rueben is another guilty pleasure for me over there. Ate at that Ram brewery for lunch a few weeks ago. HIGHLY unimpressed.

If you're willing to drive about 10 minutes west to Buffalo Grove, you'll get to India House on Lake Cook and Buffalo Grove Road--probably the best Indian food outside of Devon Ave. Drive down BG Road to Dundee, and you'll get to Chaihanna, an excellent Uzbek restaurant tucked in a strip mall. Further south on Hintz and Windsor (which is what BG Road turns into south of Dundee) is Bapi Ristorante, which I've seen mentioned here as an excellent Italian place, although I've not tried yet myself.

Yes and yes. Great steaks and prime rib, spinning salad bowl, excellent old-fashioned cocktails, lots of nostalgic paraphernalia.

We quite enjoyed our visit late last year to Chaihanna. The grilled meats were tasty, but I must say, what won me over big time were the various pickled items (herring, watermelon, cabbage, etc.). This is not an easy place to spot (set chowdar to maximum sensitivity; the exterior is unprepossessing). It's about 45 minutes from me, so it's difficult to make a regular hangout, but I dug it a lot.

The prime rib (go for the x-tra cut) is a truly outstanding item, all the more special being truly roasted whole and carved to order. The dry pack sea scallops are as good as any available from any other premier seafood house. A few years back, I felt they were just going through the motions and relying on the nostalgia theme. For whatever reason, they are definitely back on their game. Maybe now carrying the mantle of Chicago restaurant history, with the demise of the Berghoff, has helped. Later in the night, after a few cocktails and the place having cleared out, I have enjoyed a sense of that history.

Further north off Milwaukee and Deerfield is Pine Garden Korean Restaurant.

Good extensive menu with the K-BBQ option.
