1st. Washington Square Rest. in Naperville, back in the late 80's and early 90's, had THE BEST, boneless beef short ribs in the universe.Fridays only.
    They are closed. Any suggestions???

2nd. In my by gone youth, there was a restaurant in Chicago, on State Street, across from then M. Fields.
The name was Reeks, ( SP)? They specialized in Boston Baked Beans.
Cooked for 24 hrs. in individual crock pots with a slice of salt pork on top.
A very poor imitation is B&M Beans in a jar.
Any help?? Something similar in the states. Not the junk from those Bar Be Que houses. Authentic. I've been unable to find anything on the NET. Thanks

Beef short ribs are very popular lately, among upscale restaurants. Some places serve them on the bone, others boneless.

One of the best I've had was last year, as a special (although they told me they usually have it among their specials) at Vivere, served over polenta. Delicious, amazingly tender, melt in your mouth - Yum! I also had them last year at Sweets and Savories (pretty good, not fabulous) and at Cafe Matou (just so-so, served on the bone).

I'd love to hear about people's favorite places for beef short ribs!

Manny's. Accept no substitute (unless you make them yourself)

I forgot to mention that I also had short ribs at Avenues. It was part of one course on their tasting menu, which was billed as the "trio of meats" - kobe (American wagyu) beef with potato beignet and mushrooms; Colorado lamb chop; and short ribs of beef with root beer sauce. And they were heavenly indeed.

    Believe it or not, Starfish.

    Braised Short Rib - $24

"Sweet ginger soy braised short rib, Asian pear puree, kabocha puree, shitake mushroom risotto, arugula dressed in wasabi vinaigrette"

Kind of an upscale short rib, admittedly, but one of the best I've had in the city [/ducks, waits for stevez to throw plate]
