OK, so for the past couple of weeks, my local 7-11 (Milwaukee and Fullerton) has been displaying chocolate-chocolate glazed donuts in the little plastic case by the register, with a sign indicating they are "O/F Donuts." Steel-trap mind that I have, I instantly (eventually) figured, this must somehow mean these donuts are from Old Fashioned Donuts in Roseland. Far-fetched? Yes, but I asked the clerk, and she said that yes, they WERE from the very Old Fashioned Donuts on South Michigan that I imagined. And another clerk on another night, and yet a third on another night corroborated. So, I bought some of them, and they are very good, vastly superior to your typical 7-11 donut, but I am left with nagging doubts. First, I've never tried anything at Old Fashioned other than the apple fritter and regular glazed yeast donuts, so I have no idea whether these are the authentic, real deal. Second, I've never heard of Old Fashioned selling its product elsewhere than the bakery itself. But, I throw this out there for consideration. Have I been duped? If so, why? What would a 7-11 at 2400 N. Milwaukee stand to gain by selling fake Old Fashioned Donuts? I'll bet I'm one of maybe 15 or 20 people in Logan Square who has ever even been to Old Fashioned Donuts. Thoughts?
