I'm meeting someone for brunch/lunch on Sunday. He's in Rockford; I'm in Aurora.

Any suggestions for places in the middle, hopefully non-chain that serve cocktails?

    Thanks for your help!

Taxco in Sycamore (I believe on Route 64?) is excellent. We found it by looking for somewhere to eat between Huntley & Naperville. Taxco serves great Mexican food - very authentic and has a full bar. As you enter the restaurant, you are greeted by someone making fresh tortillas. The only thing I did not like about the restaurant was the large tip bucket on the table-side guacamole cart - we felt it was a bit tacky. All in all, I'd highly recommend it.

Johnny's Charhouse in Sycamore on Rte. 23 is nice. Nice variety of American fare on the menu and has a full bar. We have friends in Dixon and this is where we meet half way to eat.

We ended up going to Johnny's Char-House. We both had cheeseburgers, which were excellent. I ordered mine well-done, and even that one came back very juicy and flavorful. My friend had the blue cheeseburger (a dollar more at $8.95), and there were lots of chunky cheese on his. These were clearly hand-made burgers. The tomato even tasted like a tomato. The coleslaw was good, but french fries were forgettable.

All in all, not a bad spot if you're in the area.
