Chucks cafe www.chuckscafe.com is running Cinco De Mayo specials this month, seemingly a lot of it being from the Yucatan. Last night Monday, 4-14 he had the best thing I've ever had ever, and if you see this on the specials menu again I highly suggest you plan a trip and get it:

Pavo en Mole Negro – sliced slow roasted turkey in mole Negro, which having over twenty five ingredients is the most complex mole from Oaxaca, Mexico, served with mashed Yukon Gold potatoes with queso cotija and esquites (pan seared corn with crumbled pasilla chile)

I've had this once before, but last night, was the best ever. Not only was it the best, but TURKEY OF THE GODS, the flavor, the spices.... just the aroma of the dish arriving at the table got me excited. This is the best thing I've ever eaten EVER anywhere, and it's worth a trip whenever this appears on the specials menu. I don't know what else to say other than EVERYONE needs to go and try this dish, it will knock your socks off!!!

OK, so the Mrs. and the rest of the family is going to Chuck's this evening for dinner. Is there anything that is a "must have" that you can recommend, the specials look really interesting.

The Mrs. has quite a sweet tooth, how are the desserts?

Is this your first visit ever to Chuck's?

If so, I consider Chuck's Bowl o' Red (a slightly spicy, slightly sweet chili) to be a must.

Check his daily specials for today, they should be up by noon. They will be posted online and you can call and get a recorded message that is updated daily with the specials which is a considerably long list.

There will be quite an extensive list of limited items which are fantastic. The chili is great, and if it's not hot enough for you there is a nice table of hot sauces you can help yourself too off to the side around the corner. Luckily I live close by so I can try the specials that change daily - the soups are fantastic.

Some regular items that get my recognition: Crab cakes, BBQ pork nachos, seafood gumbo, etouffe, chicken enchiladas. For the unadventurous, the Chicken Fried Chicken is a clear winner.

Nope, I was there a little over a year ago and had the roast beef and the gumbo....

The Mexican Pot Roast is pretty hard to beat from the specials board. I agree that Chuck's Cup of Red Chili is both tatsy and unique in Chicago.
