Sura, the uber-hip, Jetson's-esque Thai "bistro" restaurant at 3124 Broadway has, to my surprise, become one of my favorite restaurants. I began going there one night several months ago because I felt obligated to try it eventually (seeing as I live so close). Since that first trip where I was treated to the most delicious peanut-coconut milk massaman curry I have ever enjoyed, nothing has been any less than stellar in my opinion.
Now, I am happy to see and say that Sura has expanded their menu to include a progressive-looking brunch. For a while, I worried for the restaurant. I would always see it far less than busy, even on weekend nights. The owner is a pleasure to talk to, and I wanted nothing but to see his business boom.
After an unfortunate downgrade in service hours, seeing as they removed lunch from their menu except on weekends, they have kicked things back up with brunch offered Friday thru Sunday. Everything on this menu sounds amazing, and I can't wait to try them all: coconut waffles with rum banana sauce, soft shell crab burger, an eggs benedict with lardon truffle hollandaise, and tortillas filled with "mock duck" and chili paste. YUM.
Sura also added some promising sounding menu items scattered around elsewhere, like the vegetarian delight, the lychee spicy duck, and tamarind cashew chicken. The owner also promises a soon-to-arise sushi menu (although this is decidedly not Thai, but I have come to terms with the inauthenticity of the place). With the prices that really can't be beat, selections up the wazoo, and food that has never been less than rave-worthy in my opinion, I hope I am imploring enough people to seek this place out. I would be devastated if it ever (gasp) closed.
