My then husband and I will be visiting Chicago next year. We are planning on staying in the Magnificent Mile area and since he is Irish...we would love to find a great Irish Pub in the area. Can anyone advise? Thanks.

It's part of a chain, but Fadó is a short cab ride or reasonable walk in good weather from the Magnificent Mile (Michigan Avenue). Huge, fun and generally not as corporate as you would expect. Another option is Kitty O'Shea's in the Chicago Hilton on South Michigan Avenue, although the prices there are rather high, the character of the place is quite pleasant and relatively low-key (the vibe is comparatively amped-up at Fadó). I'm sure some others here will post better options, mostly in far-flung neighborhoods, some of which might actually be worth the El ride, if you can make the time.

In the Mag Mile/River North area, I highly recommend Celtic Crossings at 751 N. Clark.

I'll second Celtic Crossing. The Kerryman is nice as well but CC is a proper pub, no blaring tv/s a decent pint of Guinness and friendly staff.

Celtic Crossing. No food though just so you know. More room for Guiness, one of the owners is usually behind the bar. I think they are all conveniently named John.

Try "The Gage" on Michigan Ave, across from the Art Institute. If you want reviews of these places or pictures, you can go to metromix.com or timeout.com/chicago. Have fun.

Agreed, the Gage has pretty solid food and is pretty fun as well. It also just got voted as one of the best new restaurants by chicago magazine.

What about Brehon's on Wells at Superior? I haven't been there in years, but it always struck me as decent place.

It's up in Wrigleyville, but Irish Oak is worth the trip. Irish breakfast served all day.
