I've been to Spoon a fair amount and have always been given a regular menu and a separate menu that declares it is "Recommended by Chicago Tribune." This latter menu has the rather special items like the banana blossom salad and the duck curry.
All this talk about a "secret menu" has me a little confused--is this printed, translated second menu that they hand me when i go the "secret" menu? (if so, i'm assuming they heeded someone's advice and printed the translation, as the dishes became popular for chowists and the like).
Or if not, how do i attain the "secret menu?"
Thanks for your help; I really appreciate it.

Frankly, the Level I Secret Menu (recommended by the Tribune... because they read about them on Chowhound in posts by people like G Wiv and RST) is probably the most helpful thing for most of us as it covers an easy top ten or so of the more unusual dishes.

The Level II Ultra-Secret Menu, which you must usually get by defeating Chai and Wanna's cadre of Warriors of the Undead and penetrating to the Temple of Forbidden Pleasures, but which is also available for download somewhere, maybe G Wiv can provide the link, is a list of a bazillion more dishes; however, it was originally written out (like all secret menus) for Thai natives and so unless you recognize a lot of the Thai names for things, it's not necessarily going to be that helpful. But, you might as well download one and check it out.

    Hi,

Within a day we will provide a link via the Useful Stuff Board, where we intend this information to reside. Rather than search posts for translated menus, they will all be in one place. Note they will probably be updated soon.

i went to spoon thai for a late (9pm) dinner on saturday and was handed the regular menu and the 'recommended by chicago tribune' menu. i then asked for "gary's menu" and received the chowhound-translated secret menu.

most everything was translated, and foodfirst's descriptions were attached as well. it was great to have.

we had: papaya salad, banana blossom salad, isaan sausage, and fried chicken. all were wonderful, although the papaya salad was too spicy for a couple of my companions. my favorite was the thai fried chicken, one companion absolutely loved the banana blossom salad, another had many helpings of the isaan sausages.

We had a quick and very tasty meal, and it came to about $10 per person after drinks/tax/tip. A true bargain for the quantity and quality of food.

But yeah, just try asking for "gary's menu". They seemed to know what I
    meant.
