We finally tried Sushi Station last night, on Randall Rd, in Elgin. We thought it was a buffet, but it is not--you sit at a bar with a conveyer rotation of plates and choose what you want as they glide by. Pricing is by plate color-- from $1.25 or so to the top plate price of $6.25. Most were blue plates--$3.25. They also have a relatively small menu of appetizers and desserts that you could order off of any time. I got a mini-udon with delicious broth, udon and a good sized shrimp for $4.25.

We were pleased with the selection. We got there about 5:30, so relatively early and it was already half full. By the time we left it was full (one section was closed-- I suppose it would be open once it got busier). We found service to be very attentive and friendly. There were many workers always around--either our attentive waitress, or a busser who would remove plate covers or used side dishes promptly. We were told that if we didn't see something we knew they offered they would prepare it in the kitchen for us.

There was a mix of rolls and other types of sushi (ok, thats not very descriptive). We had tuna, fatty tuna, salmon, smoked salmon, beef, caterpillar roll, and a few others. There were edamame, and a few desserts as well. When we were leaving a few more interesting things were starting to appear, such as squid, duck, and a jellyfish and sharks fin thing. Hmmm...

My husband is a pretty big eater and our bill for the two of us including one large Sapporo was $39.00 plus tip. We thought that was quite reasonable. Overall we we very happy with our experience and would definitely return.
