I made my first visit to Sweet Cakes two Saturdays back. I was really impressed by the quality of their food and was surprised I hadn't heard more about it on LTH. Now I'm finally getting around to looking and see
this thread as one of the few places where it's been discussed. I think it deserves a thread of its own.
My hosts had purchased a "breakfast party" or something in a silent auction. This meant that they served about a dozen of us a few platters of things from the bakery case and invited the kids to make a few of their own choices as well. I imagine that if we asked for other things, we'd have gotten them, but the initial spread was more than enough. They also set us up with all the coffee we wanted.
Of course, now more than a week later, I am in a poor position to report well on the food, but the highlight was a delicious mushroom scone. (More savory scones, please!) We also had very good croissants, a nice piece of banana bread and ... well, like I said, shoulda posted sooner. I probably should have made room for one of the mini-cupcakes which came in a half-dozen interesting flavors (and were mini, which I prefer to the giant cupcake phenomenon).
The staff were really nice and accommodating, especially considering that it I assume they donated the cost of everything we had to whichever organization sponsored the silent auction.
I wish I lived closer.
