    Hi everybody,

I am coming from Portland with some family, and we are looking to dine out on a Sunday night in downtown Chicago. Our price range is between 15-25 dollars for entrees, and we have a decently large party. None of us really know the city very well though. Something like Berghoff's would have been perfect for the family get together but they are not open on Sunday.

    Can anybody help?!? :)

Also, some of us are a bit more adventurous and love to eat cutting edge food, so if anybody has recommendations for that we are more than open to them.

    Thanks.

Sorry I missed this yesterday: generally, we send newcomers to the GNR list, which is set up for this very purpose. Look over the list and post back if you have further questions. People here can be very helpful if you give specifics: e.g. time, part of town, availability of transportation, type of food and service you expect, what you mean by "adventurous." The list is set up so that you should have a starting place to look for all those things; there's even a pocket guide you can print out and bring with you.

When you say "downtown", which part of downtown will you be in? The Loop (our commercial office district) or the "Mag Mile" of North Michigan Avenue (our luxury hotel and shopping district) or the nearby South Loop, West Loop, etc?

If I had to name one excellent restaurant in those two areas in the price range you mention, one that's open on Sundays, it would be Atwood Cafe in the Loop for contemporary American, and Cafe Spiaggia on the Mag Mile for Italian. Click on the name to see their website, which include menus with prices (note that Cafe Spiaggia's website also includes its far more expensive sister restaurant, Spiaggia, so don't confuse the two; click on "CAFE").

If you wanted to go more for the $15 entree rather than the $25 entree, I suggest going to one of the Greek restaurants in Greek Town just west of the Loop (e.g. Santorini, Greek Islands), or one of our places for Chicago-style deep-dish pizza (both Giordano's, for double-crust "stuffed" pizza, and Pizano's, for single-crust "pan" pizza, have locations in the Loop and near the Mag Mile).
