My girlfriend and I always go to Nookie's on Halstead for our weekend breakfast fix since they have all four elements that we always look for: well cooked eggs, good potatoes, good coffee, and tasty multi-grain bread. So, any suggestions for someplace new this weekend?

Well, I wouldn't necessarily say that it is the greatest thing since sliced bread, but I always enjoy the food at the Salt and Pepper Diner, on Lincoln a little south of Wrightwood. Speaking of bread, I can't vouch that they will have your multigrain (they seem more like a white, wheat or rye kind of place) but I think you'll find the rest to your liking.

Thanks for the quick response. I just want to offer the caveat that I am not necessarily looking for a fancy place or a place that does things as differently from a normal diner than Nookie's. Actually, my ideal would just be a place that did regular diner food really well. Although, to add to my wish list, any place that has good homemade corned beef hash would zoom to the top of the list for me.

There are a number of threads on Corned Beef Hash, I don't know if any of them suit you geographically, but you aren't the only one looking for a fix:

Thanks for the corned beef links. I will file those away for a future CBH-focused excursion.

FWIW, the aforementioned Salt and Pepper Diner lists corned beef hash on the menu that's viewable online. Never had it there, can't vouch for it, but they have it.

    Have you tried Toast?
Although it's one of those brunch establishments that serves up french toast topped with s'mores (not literally, but they might as well), they hit home runs with the basics. And, quite frankly, the toast is always crisp on the outside, fluffy on the inside. Perfect for dipping in a soft-boiled egg.

Although I've never been to the Brunch there, I am told that Stanley's on Lincoln @ Armitage has an incredible Brunch Buffet. I've had their weekday lunch and dinner, and the food is pretty good if a little pricey. My friend who brunches there once a month swears by it, but then she is more of a volume eater....

Stanley's is good. Young and hip working off the previous nights binge. :) Some good solid lunch items on the buffet too.
