They're about half a block north of the Belmont/Ashland/Lincoln intersection. Last night when I drove past, it didn't really LOOK open- must've just happened? It seemed like they were building forever.

I'm so tired of bars/restaurants with random one word names.
When I open my place, it's going to be called "The Best Place To Eat And/Or Drink In This City Or We'll Give You A Free Pony".

I'm going to need a big sign.

I ate at Agave last night. They've been open for a week. It's a small place that seats 48. Attentive staff, VERY attentive. We got attention not only from the waiter but 2 others who could have been owners? The menu has 7? main entrees which seemed limited. There was 1 chicken, 1 cooked seafood, 1 ceviche seafood, 1 veggie and the rest meat. I had the chicken enchiladas which were fine. When I asked the waiter which he'd recommend, the chicken or the snapper he didn't answer and then I asked which was milder and he hemmed and hawed. My husband ordered a tenderloin? with refried beans, rice and something else. Nice presentation.

Overall the food was ok. Nothing great. Our bill was approx $60 for 2 house margaritas, an appetizer and 2 main dishes. We both thought the entrees were a bit $$$.

It IS a beautiful space though.

Things I learned walking around my neighborhood today:

Agave is south of Belmont, not north.

Terragusto is closed for lunches now, but open on Tuesday nights now.

Paradise Lunch, formerly Cafe Demir, formerly Red Corner, is closed.

Las Tablas, which has been on one side of Lincoln since dinosaurs walked the earth, is moving to a new place on the other side.

Papacita's is a new Mexican restaurant whose owner has the very Latino name Moussa and used to work at, try to guess if you can, Mamacita's. The chef has the very Latino name Jennifer McDermott. I expect it to be very authentic.

Whole Foods has orange cauliflower. Really orange. It looks like a freshly picked head of circus peanuts.

Pignoli at Whole Foods bear the helpful warning: "Pine Nuts. Contains Tree Nuts."

    Oranger, though. Like they're Cheeto-flavored.

Jim, you try the spinoff of Mamacita's first, and let us know how glorious it is.

(I know some people like Mamacita's. I don't know why, though.)

Wow. I wonder how some of Whole Foods' customers feel about that feat of genetic engineering.

Drove by last night on the way to a packed Bistro Campange:

It is with great sadness that we announce that as of Sunday, December 21st, 2008 Agave Bar and Grill will close its doors. It was very difficult to arrive to this decision, but the severe economic downturn has affected us greatly, just as it has many other businesses. We will take a step back and try to create a new concept for our location and hope to present it to you sometime in early February, 2009. in the meantime, the restaurant space will still be available for private events from 25 to 120 people. Please contact chef Bryan Garcia for information and booking.

We sincerely appreciate your patronage and kind reviews and hope to see you the next time around.

    Thank you.

    Martin Flores, Owner

    Amy Fries, General Manager

    Bryan Garcia, Executive Chef
