Since I live on the block, I've spent enough $ at The Crespo Market (North and Leavitt) to send one of Tony's (proprietoror) kids to college. Whenever I stumble in, Tony always greets me. Tony will soon be opening a "Spanish Sandwich Shop" in the adjacent store, currently a laundromat. He invited me in for a preview last night. It is decorated with a wall mural relecting a Puerto Rican village, similar to the mural above his current beer cooler. When I asked him what a "Puerto Rican Sandwich" was, he didn't expand much beyond ham and cheese, but he also insisted he would have a great burger. I asked him about frozen or hand cut fries, and he said something about a purveyour who delivered cut fries in icewater. He said thay were great, but I'll withhold judgement. Since his C-Store is next door, BYOB won't be a problem! He plans to open in April. I'm a bit sceptical, but I wish him luck.
