    LTHForum,

A new Mexican restaurant popped up on Cicero across from Whole Foods, exciting news in the hinterlands of Chicago proper. Steve Z spotted the lit yellow sign Sunday, Monday lunch seemed a given.

Nicely decorated single storefront, scant, yet tasteful art, linen napkins/tablecloths, quality cutlery, the owners obviously put thought and money behind Frida's. Well priced lunch menu, nothing over $6.90 including beans rice and cup of soup, with the dinner average hovering around $15.95, including sides and starch.

Standard issue chips with tomatillo salsa as we pondered the menu and Queso Fundido w/chorizo and rajas for starter, interesting presentation with coins of chorizo as opposed to integrated in the dish. Served bubbling hot the overall effect was slightly bland, avocado providing a creamy cooling touch.

We tried three items from the lunch menu, Jazzfood was the third, neutral flavored chicken tacos on commercial tortillas with green rice and refried beans, Enchiladas Suizas w/steak and Carne Asada w/rice and cactus salad. Carne Asada the clear winner, med-rare skirt steak, tasty cactus salad and moist rice.

Five days in Frida's ran smoothly, no menu issues, good service, comfortable physical space. Frida's seems geared to the Sauganash/Lincolnwood neighborhood its perched on the border of, where a common ordering question from local patrons will be "is it spicy." Given its proximity I will be back for the well priced carne asada lunch special and see dinner with the neighbors, who are fans of Wholly Frijoles, in my near future.

    Enjoy,
    Gary
