My husband is hitting a milestone birthday in early December and I'd like to throw him a small party for family and a few friends. But I'd like it to be inexpensive too. And not in my home. Oh, and some young children will be there. Any ideas on tasty restaurants/bars that could help me with something like this? Thanks!

I don't know where you live, but when my husband turned 40 and I didn't want to spend a lot I had a party at Carmen's pizza in Evanston. They had a private room we could use, salad, pizza, beer and wine for a set price. I just brought decorations and the cake. Pizza or pasta seem to be the best bet if you don't want to spend a lot. Hackney's also has private rooms and set menus that don't cost a lot.

We live on the far north side on the city. So I'm happy to do anything as far south as downtown and can go up to some close in suburbs like Evanston, Lincolnwood, etc.
As far as cost, let's say less than $300 for 10-15 adults and up to 5 kids.
