This morning I find myself in a bit of a quandry. Mrs. P and I wanted to go out for a family dinner with our two daughters and initially thought Mado would be great, but of course, at this late time reservations ain't gonna happen. A friend recommended Silver Seafood, but generally we like something a little spicier than HK Chinese, and truthfully, I'm not the biggest fan of Chinese restaurants in general - I fully get the irony of posting that statement here!

So we have just a few requirements:

    1. Our destination must be within the Chicago city limits - we're coming in from Lake Forest
    2. We'd like it to be a newer place
    3. We'd like to sit down between 7pm and 8pm
    4. Cousine type does not matter, but it should be an excellent example of whatever cousine is being served.

Thanks for your thoughts, a tall order I know, but I have all the confidence in the world that you folks will come through for us!

Have you checked the GNR List? It's there to answer the exact question you just posed.

Agreed. But for those overwhelmed by choices (my husband & several friends fall into that camp) I would check out The Brown Sack, The Depot, Lula, Marie's Pizza, Nightwood, Nuevo Leon, Spacca Napoli, & call Sweets & Savories now to see if they have anything available ( (I don't know how old your kids are & some places are more kid friendly than others but on this list almost all of them would be fine) . All of my suggestions are GNR's except Nightwood which is owned by GNR husband & wife at Lula.

I would love it if you would let us know about your dining experience. It is always great to give back to this site.

I love the Brown Sack but Pursuit should note that it closes at 8 pm, and is very small and casual -- more of a sandwich-and-milkshake-for-lunch kind of place. The Depot might also be more downscale than Pursuit is thinking of.

For Mexican, I would suggest checking out Sol de Mexico rather than going all the way to Nuevo Leon.

Perhaps Pursuit could say more about what sort of place he is looking for? And how far south they are willing to go?

Thanks for the tips. To answer a couple questions, yes I did check out the list, but 1. There's a lot there! (so right on Pairs) and 2. I'm looking for somebody's top of mind, "go here now suggestion". Sweets and Sol seem to fit that bill. My daughters from the earliest of ages have been trained to be intrepic gastronauts, so cuisine is not an issue. Bring it on! I guess we'll go anywhere, but are biased to South Loop north.

By the way, popped over to Johnnies in Arl Hts. for lunch, i'll write that up on the Johnnies thread later.

Thanks folks! I will report back.

Please note that Lula is NOT a GNR.

I went a few weeks ago for the 1st time & really enjoyed it. I'm going tomorrow for brunch.

    FYI, it's BYOB.
