Shanghai Terrace Peking Duck Service

Has anybody tried the Perking Duck service at Shanghai Terrace? I know that Sun Wah's Peking Duck has many fans on this board, but we are looking for a more refined experience.

According to Menupages, the 5 course Peking duck dinner is $82 per person. It better be a pretty freaking "refined experience" for that price.

I ate at Shanghai Terrace a couple of years ago, although none of us got the Peking Duck. I thought it was a unique experience in Chicago, with the high level of quality food and service you would expect in a luxury hotel like the Peninsula. It compares well with other elegant (but semi-casual) restaurants in the same price range. I left fully satisfied in every way.

I presume that it is. Having been to Shanghai Terrace several times for the sadly now defunct Sunday dim sum service (which was, predictably, priced head and shoulders above LTH Chinatown favorites such as Shui Wah and Phoenix), I can vouch for the fact that, in terms of the Chicago dim sum experience, you get what you pay for. Dim sum variety and quality seemed on par with--or likely exceeded--that of San Francisco stalwarts Ton Kiang and Yank Sing and measured favorably with that offered at the excellent Cantonese restaurant at the Peninsula Bangkok. I imagine that Shanghai Terrace offers the caliber and food and refined service and presentation that is common at upscale places in Hong Kong and Guangzhou, although I have never been to that part of China.

Sometimes a special occasion calls for more than mall Chinese (even if the mall is Chinatown Square). With a dearth of mid-range or higher Chinese places in Chicago, Shangahi Terrace seems like the only game in town for a semi-formal Chinese meal.
