I've had a look at the board and still need your input. I want to take my family out for dinner Sunday for my daughter's birthday. She loves Mexican food, especially Nuevo Leon, but I wanted to try a some place new and out in the western suburbs. Not a lot of options in Naperville, but Aurora, Plainfield, Downers Grove etc. are fine. If the place has free parking and BYOB, we could go to Pilsen area (as I could drop son off at UIC). But first I wanted to see if there are any recent suggestions. I read the LaQuebrada thread. Has anyone tried LaAdelita in Plainfield?

My husband is still without a job, so I'm looking for a place where you get a lot for your money (like Amanecer Tapatio). Thanks for you help.
Restaurants are coming and going quickly and I appreciate any current ideas.

    Hi janeyb -
Sounds like you are looking for something further than my range, so I don't have a place for you - hopefully someone else does. If you still don't get any strong recs, I think I'd suggest checking out restaurant.com and at least saving a few bucks to try out a new joint. Good Luck!

La Quebrada is a great choice for traditional Mexican in the western suburbs, as I'm sure you've read in the La Quebrada thread. Since you're in Naperly Hills, I'd recommend La Quebrada Express as it's a little bit closer, and as far as I can tell the food is the same as the one by the casino.

If you're looking for something a little bit more modern, I'd go to Bien Trucha in Geneva. It has great atmosphere and serves more nuevo-Mexican fare. I don't think they're set up to serve a lot of people at once, but if your family is around 4 people, it should be fine.

I would have also recommended Adobo Grill in Oakbrook as another modern-y choice, but alas, it has closed. That's a shame, because their brunches were really good.

Thanks for your input, I did read the thread, actually I read all the related threads I couldn find. I tried to google a menu for La Quebrada Express, but couldn't find one. Have you eaten there? Is is the same as the other one in Aurora? Bar or BYOB?
    Thanks

I'd look at New Rebozo in Oak Park if you want to travel a bit further. Not far off 290/Harlem and easy parking. Food is great.

Also, I'll double up on the Xni-pec rec above if you want something really unique (and excellent!)

As far as I know, La Quebrada Express doesn't have a bar, and I've never BMOB there as I usually go for lunch. Haha no drinking during work hours for me. Perhaps they could let you know if you gave them a call, just in case. Concerning the menu, I think Express uses the same actual laminated menu as the other Aurora La Quebrada. I've been to both several times and never noticed anything different, same great grilled meat and fish platos, same fresh-made tortillas, and same tacos etc.

Bien Trucha does offer drinks, and fancy ones at that (looking through the menu online).*

*Edit: Strike that, Bien Trucha is also closed Sundays. Good call, Amata!

Unfortunately, it seems that Xni-Pec is closed on Sundays (according to their website). If janeyb could have the dinner on another night, I also think that Xni-Pec would be an excellent choice. Note, though, that it is not BYOB.
