So much has been said about LTH, but anyway I just want to say, YUM. I completely over ordered and overate, but it was worth it. There were only three of us, but we ordered a beef and noodle dish that we say others eating which was really good, half of a crispy skin chicken (is it deep fried?), salt and pepper shrimp, chicken with cashews, and chinese brocoli with garlic sauce. I kind of kept the crispy skin chicken to myself (I felt guilty, but not that guilty), and ate almost the whole darn thing along with a great deal of the salt and pepper shrimp. Even the chicken with cashews was tasty (a dish that, in my experience, can be really bland).

From other people's experience, who has the best hot and sour soup?

To date, the best hot and sour soup I've had is Pine Yard in Evanston. But I haven't spent much time in Chinatown, and there's lots of places whose H&S I haven't tried even nearby in the burbs, just because sometimes I'm not hungry enough for soup.

I vote for Lao Sze Chuan's hot and sour soup.

I'll second LSC and add Sun Wah to the fray. I love their food (unlike The Ultimo, I've had no bad experiences there) and their hot sour soup paired with the steamed dover sole filet is one of my favorite meals.

My wife and I visited LTH for lunch yesterday. The place was packed and the only seating was a large round table that we would be required to share if others were willing. We were going to grab a quick bite and head out to another event for the afternoon and evening.

Our order consisted of Salt & Pepper Shrimp with the shells on, Pork with Fried Rice Noodles done extra crispy, and 1/2 of a Crispy Fried Chicken. While LTH is always an excellent choice the Pork with Extra Crispy Fried Rice Noodles was dead on perfection. Lots of crispy noodles, plenty of pork. Shrimp and chicken were very good, but they have been better occasionally.

As we were waiting for our food, 3 ladies vactioning from the Durham, NC area came in. They had just visited the Maxwell Street Market and were walking through Chinatown to find a place to eat. One of the women peeked through the window, saw how crowded LTH was and they came in. They sat with us and as we conversed I offered some suggestions for ordering. They loved the S & P Shrimp, Shrimp Toast, and the Pork with Extra Crispy Noodles. One of the women preferred a little more spice and I turned her on to the world famous Gwiv Chili Oil. She loved it. As we left they thanked us for the suggestions and said how much fun they had been having in Chicago.

I did save some leftovers which I will be eating for lunch in a few minutes.
