Re: Tien Giang restaurant
Having quite a severe episode of flu for the last 3 weeks I decided that I needed one of my favorite cold-curing remedies, Pho Ga, in other words a good Vietnamese Chicken rice noodle soup.
Having read with interest Robstercraws posting of May 31 about the re-opening of Tien Giang, a good Vietnamese restaurant that used to be on Argyle but burned down two years ago and has now re-opened since March at 4925 North Broadway, and their good Pho, I decided to have one for lunch Today.
The place is modest but very bright and clean and the very lively customers, many with somewhat noisy children, were all Vietnamese, which is a good sign. I ordered my Pho Ga and some hot tea and both were very good. On the plus side the broth was not heavy or greasy, very fragrant with a very good balance of herbs and onion flavors, and not too garlicy, gingery, or spicy as it should be. The chicken was exclusively boneless dark meat that was very well cooked, aromatic, and most important tender.
The rice noodles had the right texture. The bean sprouts were very fresh.
On the minus side the accompanying sprigs of Thai basil were sadly tired, wilted and turning black at the edges.
And there was only one tiny wedge of lime.
But my general impression was very positive.
Since they have a very attractive menu with many authentic specialties that you rarely find in other Vietnamese eateries in Chicago, I will go back.
Service is prompt and very pleasant.
I was told that the owners and the chef are he same as in the old place 2 years ago.
Thanks for the tip.
