I'm going to a concert tomorrow night at Toyota Park in Bridgeview. Any good (and preferably) quick spots to check out near there for a quick pre-show dinner?

    Thanks in advance.

Bridgeview is near Summit, right? You could go to Duke's Lithuanian restaurant. You could probably get a "quick pre-show dinner" there in the sense that it wouldn't necessarily take you that much time (the service is expeditious and I bet when we were there we were out of there in an hour and fifteen), but the heartiness might not be what you're looking for before a concert.

Grand Duke's (6312 S Harlem) – Close to Toyota, good Lithuanian chow, cool space, full bar with a nice selection of Lithuanian beers.

(not so grand) Duke's (8115 S Harlem) – Also close, neat old drive-in, respectable Chicago fast food (beef, sausage, dogs etc).

Al Bawadi (7216 W 87th) – Topnotch Middle Eastern food, grilled meats excel, no alcohol. This would be my choice unless booze is required.

    And there's always Mr Shrimp!

How about GNR Al Bawadi Grill?

    Hi,

According to the obituaries in today's Tribune, not only did Leon Multack the founder of Mr. Shrimp die this week. He closed Mr. Shrimp the fastfood emporium within the last few weeks due to failing health.

What I don't understand from the obit, he died of complications of Alzheimers. I find it hard to believe he was able to continue working under those circumstances. I reread the obit to find his wife died within the last month. She may have been the glue. So sad.

    Regards,
    Cathy2

When I'm in the area for Fire games, we usually hit up the taqueria directly across Harlem from the stadium - Taqueria Los Magueyes. Nothing fancy, just solid versions of the standards; the steak tacos have freshly grilled steak with good char (they advertise 'al carbon'). The pastor is good too - lots of crispy bits and small pieces of pineapple mixed in. The place is usually packed with Mexican families getting a pre-game meal. It hasn't been discussed here before, other than a report of sub-par carne en su jugo which I haven't tried personally.

I've always been curious about this place when I'm on my way to/from Chuck's/Al Bawadi, good to hear the asada and pastor are quality.

To the OP: Chuck's new location is right nearby, if you need booze. Otherwise, Al Bawadi..

I popped into Los Magueyes a while back after taking someone to Al-Bawadi. Through miscommunication we wound up ordering two pastor tacos and no steak instead of one of each, but the pastor was decent if lacking in crispiness. All in all, despite a certain chain-like spiffiness, the place looks promising and for real. I'd check it out further... after all the middle eastern places, of course.
