On Mike G's tip I tried the steak sandwich tonight. It's a good sized rib-eye, normally served on a French bread roll. Based on my experience with B&B's pork chop sandwich (they take a whole pork chop and cut into odd shaped chunks to fit the French bread), I asked for a bun, hoping they would leave the steak intact, as it mimicked the shape of the bun. My instincts were correct. I received a whole steak which filled the bun almost perfectly.
As with the pork chop, the house toppings for the rib-eye are lettuce, tomato, and mayo (?!?). I can't even fathom a steak, let alone a pork chop sandwich with those toppings so I asked for steak sauce, grilled onions, and pickles to cap off the sandwich. I forgot to ask for them to cook it to medium rare, but they did just fine without my prompt. Flavor-wise, this was indeed a very good fast food steak sandwich. Excellent beefy flavor with nice char grilled accents, complimented by the nicely sweet caramelized onions, the tang of the steak sauce, and the briny pickles.
The only downside to this sandwich is that it had, IMHO, an inordinate amount of gristle. I mean, I'll bet I tossed close to 20% of the steak in the garbage because it was unchewable; inedible. Don't get me wrong, what didn't get spit out and tossed was choice, but there just seemed to be more gristle than one would reasonably expect.
Although it tasted good, with all the other good to great choices offered by Beef & Burger, I don't think I'll be ordering the steak sandwich again anytime soon. No kiddin', try the grilled chicken sandwich sometime. You won't be disappointed; great flavor and no gristle to speak of.
