Taqueria Anafrez is now open!!!
Drove past a few days ago, and figured I'd give em a try when I could.

This new joint is on Roosevelt Road in Berwyn just E of Harlem a little bit. Almost directly across the street from stalwart Ino's Tacos. I stopped in to see if there was anything remarkable about their "Grand Opening Special - 1.59 tacos." From what I tried, I gotta say, that there was nothing special at all. I was hoping to find a new joint that had something to make it stand out from the glut of other taquerias in the area, and I did not find it at all in their tacos I had. They do some stews, and some platillos, I didn't try all of their meat offerings, they possibly do other meats better, but what I had was dime a dozen taqueria tacos, and the same red/green salsa offerings that those dime a dozen places have. I could have gotten this food anywhere. Granted it was a very limited trial, but nothing showed any promise for a reason to return and try more.
Tacos

Steak

These were actually a little more photogenic than tasty. Gray, underseasoned, finely chopped meat. Griddle sauteed. I've had worse, but I could get these anywhere. Nothing special at all. These would not stand out in any way whatsoever versus hundreds of tauerias around town
Chicken and Barbacoa:

Chicken was in the same boat as the steak. Just little bits of underseasoned bird parts. One good thing was that they weren't boiled in oversalty red sauce like many places do. Barbacoa was the clear winner in this trial, although the taco was mostly fat chunks. The meat was really decent tho. I'd assume that the fatty bit content is not the norm, I just got a bad draw. The fat doesn't irk me at all, it's just that there was more fat than I would have cared for, and the meat was pretty good. After I picked the fat off, the meat left was about two bites worth. Good bites, mind you, but I would have liked more since it was good.
Salsa - red / green. Absolutely exactly what you'd expect from a non-descript taqueria - nothing popping, or great at all.
From my trial yesterday, I think I'll stick with Ino's for now if I needed to eat right there.
(I do really like INo's chicken, but for taqueria food in that area, I'd make an effort to get to Zacatacos on Cermak and Lombard-ish.) I'll probably go back in a few months as they are new, and deserve another shot. Maybe I'll try a stew type thing and a few more tacos.
