Early for a meeting in Itasca today, the sign for free wi-fi as I drove by this place drew me in. The cannoli and the coffee are what will keep me coming back anytime I'm in the area.

The cannolo is not the best I've ever had, but it's made in house, filled to order, and quite good. At $1.99 it's an excellent value. Coffee is excellent, and under 2 bucks.

Asti also specializes in Italian subs, beef sandwiches and the like. I bet that stuff's good too. The place has that kinda vibe.

I work right down the street in Wood Dale and have been interested in giving the place a shot, as I love Italian subs. I read on the board somewhere that it wasn't any good however, I'll go next week, make up my own mind, and then post a review.

    Thanks for reminding me.

Yeah... I searched again and couldn't find anything about Asti. I don't frequent many other food forums so, I'm not sure where I got that idea from. It could have been Yahoo local but, I looked there and found some nice reviews.

Regardless, I need to go check it out.

BTW, other Italian subs in the area I have enjoyed are (in no particular order) Al & Joe's, Ozzie's, Mario's, Fontano's, and of course Frankie's Deli in Lombard!!

    Hi all,

I went to Asti on Friday for lunch with a co-worker. The place was very nice and had a wonderful outdoor terrace that was quite comfortable, even in 90 degree heat, because of the plethora of umbrellas blocking the sun. I figured out that it was a different co-worker that had told me not to go there. He suggested Marino's at Irving Park and Wood Dale roads instead. I've not been there yet but as you'll see, I'm glad I decided to go to Asti anyway. Now on to the important part, the food.

I had a Prosciutto sub with the standard lettuce, tomato, onion, and dressing and added Capicolla. This is how I order every Italian meat-based sub. I found the bread to be delicious, soft but with a little chew, not at all flaky like bread's that are too hard (for me). The meat was delicious as well.

My co-worker had the special, which was basically the same meats and toppings as mine but on a wonderfully-looking tomato foccocia bread.

All in all, I would definitely return. As noted above, I've eaten at Al & Joe's, Ozzie's, Mario's, Fontano's, and Frankie's Deli in Lombard. I would still put Frankie's first but put Asti's in the discussion with the others (except Mario's - not a fan of their subs) for a solid #2, especially taking into account that the other places are farther away from my work whereas Asti is basically down the street.

    Hope this helps.

    John
