A new outpost of Zapatista is opening in the vacated Emilio's space at Clark & Fullerton.

At Wolf and Kensington in Mount Prospect, the corner Mexican restaurant Breezes (formerly Ricos Tacos, or is it the other way around, before that Viva Zapata) looks to be reopening shortly as "Mi Restaurante."

Competing with Photo's on that corner is apparently tough -- in the last decade and a half it's killed the above Mex places, two sandwich/pizza places (Sweeties and Peeties -- same spot with minimal signage changes), a Pizza Hut take-out-only spot, two Thai places, at least one Chinese, a Philipino and a previous Italian joint, although Salerno's seems to be hanging on. Rumor has it the rents and taxes are extreme in that center, so it may not all be competition with Photo's.

It looks like Mamacita's on Clark St. has closed.

They have. Icosium has relocated to the former Mamacita's space. Major upgrade on all fronts.

I hope my fears are not true!
Dairy Star's marquee is blank and their sign is empty and sitting broken on the ground. Their email address fails and there is no answering machine hooked up to that phone number. Does anyone know their status? I hope they'e coming back; they're better than Dairy Queen.

The sign was blown off during a storm (they had a big "Ouch!" on the remnants for a while) several weeks before they closed for the season. As far as I can recall they've never been open during the winter.

Driving on 18th Street this morning I saw that Bombon bakery had re-opened! Not in the old location, which is still boarded up from the fire, but a few doors west.

They seem to have a new website too, for the cake side of things, from which I extract the following coordinates:
