I had a nice lunch at Tuscany in Oakbrook today, had to use my Groupon.

I started with a salad of marinated grilled baby octopus & grilled calamari over greens. It included cucumbers, black olives, and tomatoes, with a champagne vinaigrette. The octopus and calamari were excellent. I thought there was too much dressing. I think this is just a matter of my taste lately.

My entrée was roasted maple leaf duck breast with roasted asparagus wrapped in pancetta with a cognac whole grain mustard sauce. I am not sure what the maple leaf did for the duck, but this was a very exceptional dish. It was terrific and I couldn’t resist dipping my bread in the sauce. The duck was medium rare and tender.

For dessert I had pistachio and coconut gelato with mixed fresh wild berries. This was mildly disappointing. My problem was that I expected more than one type of berry, since the menu said mixed. However, there were only raspberries. I would rate the gelato as average.
