We started off at the bar for a drink in the afternoon. The Turkish bartender and the customers were just great so we decided to eat at the bar and continue to enjoy the fun.
We began with fried zuccchini. Before ordering, I made sure it was fresh and pan fried.
It probably would have been very good, had the cook waited for the oil to be hot before he added the zucchini. The result was mushy with the breading basically unattached.
Bartender shift change happened and our new person took quite awhile to set himself up. We were patient for that half hour, waiting to order more food. We ate the bread, which was not fresh, not even yesterday. Heating it made it worse, as it crumbled into sand-like particles.
Eventually we ordered the lamb riblets to share and the house chicken-rice soup, which had that very distinct taste of Cambell's chicken soup. Even the pieces of chicken looked Campbell's. It was not at all what I expected and I disliked it alot. My companion totally agreed and he is not particular. We moved onto the lamb riblets, which arrived a half hour after ordering. The plate was so hot you couldn't touch it, yet the food was warm, at best.
My companion was in the rest room, but the bartender advised me to "dig in". I waited to see if semi warm food was OK with my friend. It was not, so I told the bartender who advised me "I told you to dig in". Then when I informed the bartender we had been there for two hours already, he replied "that's nothing, I was here for 8 hours yesterday". Finally got the riblets and they were all fat. What little meat existed, was dry as three times heated ribs without a sauce. The sides of rice and green beans were an over sauced mess.
Odyssey appears to be running on a special 9.99 menu they have, which is pretty diverse. Unfortunatly, the lousy soup and sides are very cost-conscious for the 9.99 special menu, but are served to all customers.
I know times are hard, I know it's a Greek restaurant, I'm aware that Greek humor can be misunderstood (or is it?), but we shouldn't have had to go out to eat after we dined there.
