    Hi All-

Yes, another birthday dinner thread. But, I promise, I've done as much searching the forum via google as possible, and don't really have any results.

My family and I (just 4 people) are looking to go out to dinner Friday for my birthday. I'm in Chicago, but the rest of in Libertyville, and that is where we will be basing our trip out from.

We're looking for something somewhat upscale, with entrees in the $20-$30 (think Wildfire pricing).

However, the problem is it really needs to be close to Libertyville - my parents aren't up for driving too far. It seems like a lot of great options are in Glenview, Highwood, Northbrook, Evanston, etc. But I'd really be looking for something in Libertyville, Vernon Hills, Mundelein, Lincolnshire, maybe Lake Zurich or similarly close area.

I've been to Wildfire enough times where I don't need to go again. The only place I can really think of is The Tavern, to which I have not been. There seems to be a few positive mentions of it here, which is promising.

But, I thought I'd reach out for ideas before deciding on The Tavern, which will probably provide a very good, while maybe not the most exciting, birthday dinner.

How about the LTH North endorsed Silk Mandarin? viewtopic.php?f=19&t=32910

The tavern is very good and has a good Birthday atmosphere, if you like traditional decor, and it is probably decorated for the holidays. A couple of miles east on 176 in Lake Bluff is Inovasi, which would be my top choice in the area. It is a more modern atmosphere and cuisine, but certainly birthday worthy. Another option in Libertyville would be Cafe Pyrenees at the corner of Milwaukee and Buckley, for more Continental fare.

I'll second Will's recommendation. Inovasi is an easy drive down 176; no further than Wildfire. Unless you love steak, I'd try this rather than the Tavern. Silk Mandarin, while good, does not meet your criteria of "somewhat upscale"

    Thanks guys.

Inovasi is exactly the sort of place I would never think of, but really would enjoy.

It is very nearby and not only is the food a little more interesting than The Tavern, but also cheaper.

The Tavern on the town is more expensive than Inovasi? Simply incredible. You'll have a terrific time at Inovasi. Enjoy!

    Thanks everyone.

Unfortunately we've had to push back the dinner for a couple weeks due to scheduling problems...but I am definitely set on Inovasi.

I'll let you know how it goes!
