I do love the Skylark burger of late, and
this nice roundup reminded me of another entry not too far away. A fall opening was The Burger Point, alongside the eye-catching Perspectives Charter School (Ralph Johnson) just northeast of Chinatown towards the Museum Campus. The space features a clean modern interior with lots of natural light, plenty of seating, and a tiny but optimized kitchen.

The menu and burger output (in proportion, topping availability, and cooking style) reminds me most strongly of Smashburger (which I like), but everything is obviously a notch more rustic and house-crafted. The Rain Crow Ranch beef is flavorful, the bacon is thick-cut and not held long, and the matchstick fries are skin-on and wet-crisp. My most recent Burger Point Burger (minus the egg) was delivered likably medium-rare on a medium order, sparingly seasoned, and liberally topped with a sharp pepper jack and mashed, roasted, garlicky chiles, which I think they're making or doctoring in house.

This is not a cheap burger at $8.25 before fries and a drink, but where I'll grouse about the price of many food items, somehow a quality-beefed and well-topped burger is substantial enough to me to justify cost. I think Burger Point is doing a decent job, I dig the location, and I encourage you to try anything with the pepper mash. Plenty of other bun options if you're bored of the ubiquitous (though sometimes warranted) pretzel roll. A few colleagues have very much enjoyed the chili and the chicken wings as well, both anecdotally areas of study and requisite opening menu items by the chef.
