Mr. Maki and I are celebrating our 2nd wedding anniversary tomorrow (it's actually not until next Tuesday, but this way we get a 4-day weekend).

We have stockpiled our LEYE gift cards for a couple years and we have reservations at Joe's Stone Crab (I know, we missed stone crab season  ) Because I waited too long to get reservations, dinner isn't until 10:00pm. We don't mind eating late, but it's making planning the rest of the day kind of difficult. That part of town sorta shuts down at 5:00, so there's a big gap to fill, and we're trying to minimize costs a little.

The River East AMC theater is showing four Pixar movies tomorrow starting at 10am and the last one ends around 7pm. We're going to skip one or both of them in the middle to get some sunlight and grab lunch. We're going to splurge a little on lunch since we're getting matinee prices on the movies and the dinner will be on gift cards.

It's supposed to be sunny-ish during the day, but cloudy at night, so I was thinking a restaurant with a good view would be nice. I know the food at The Signature Room is not as good as it should be for what they charge, though. But being that it's the 95th floor, the view is better than Sixteen, right? So, if we're willing to compromise on food a little for the ambience, is it at all worth it?

Or is there another place I haven't even thought of?

And if anyone has suggestions for the 7:00-9:30ish down time, I'm open to ideas there, too. Neither of us is into dancing, and for medical reasons I'm not really supposed to drink (I might have one with dinner, though.) Sitting around, watching Mr. Maki drink is not my idea of a fun time. Lookingglass Theater doesn't have a play going on right now. I thought about renting bikes to go up and down the lakefront, but the weather is supposed to be iffy tomorrow, especially later in the day.

The Signature Room is not "bad" it's just not great. And they have their lunch buffet on Fridays for $20/person so at least you can choose from a number of options. FWIW the Signature Room has a new chef, although it's hard to discern what effect that has on anything because I associate the food there with a particular chef the same way I'd associate a cruise ship meal with a particular chef.

And you really can't beat the view.

If you're going to the AMC, you might consider the Chicago Burger Company at the Sheraton. I've never had anything except cocktails there, so can't speak to the food (its basic burgers & such), but its on the River Walk side of the Sheraton, & its lovely sitting out there if the weather is nice. If either of you are UofC alumns, the place to go is the Midway Club at the Gleacher Center - lovely river view & great food.
