I picked up on this Lincoln Square cookie store from Time Out Chicago. This small shop doesn't offer much other than about a dozen kinds of cookies. Most the cookies available when we were there were vegan and tended to feature "healthy" ingredients such as agave for sweetening. They also had a line of butter cookies.
The vegan cookies were the more interesting looking ones and that's mainly what we tried. The vegan cookies all had a very distinct style: very thick and very doughy; almost like eating a rich brownie or cake as much as a cookie. I really liked the two flavors I had: oatmeal cherry, and peanut butter chocolate chip. I also tried a granola bite (can't remember the flavor) and it was, like the cookies, a very doughy, oaty ball of pleasure. I normally don't like attempts to make desserts healthy as I find they compromise the flavor too much, but these are vegan cookies I'd go back for. We tried just one of their butter cookies, which seemed a bit more average, but we didn't have enough to really judge that line.
I suspect these vegan cookies will divide people because they have a very distinct style. Personally, I think that's great, as there are too many bad, generic cookies out there that look great but taste bland.
